Week 1 – Understanding My Body
Hands-on Learning
Activity: Identify body parts using a mirror; touch and name parts.
Story-based Learning
Story: highlighting body parts
Ravi went to his garden. He waved to the sun with his hands. He touched soft petals with his hands. He kicked a ball with his feet. He ran and jumped with his feet. Ravi clapped with his hands and laughed. He said, “My hands and feet make every day an adventure!”
Ask children simple recall questions:
-
What did Ravi do with his hands?
-
What did Ravi do with his feet?
-
Can you clap your hands like Ravi?
-
Can you stomp your feet like Ravi?
Creative Activity
Activity: Draw and color a self-portrait labelling body parts.
Outdoor Exploration
Activity: Play “Simon Says” to identify body movements.
How to Play:
-
Teacher/parent plays the role of Simon.
-
Children must only follow the action if the instruction begins with “Simon says…”.
-
If the teacher gives an action without saying “Simon says”, children must not do it.
Sample Commands:
-
Simon says clap your hands.
-
Simon says stomp your feet.
-
Simon says touch your head.
-
Simon says wave your hands.
-
Simon says jump with your feet.
-
Touch your nose! ❌ (children shouldn’t do this, because Simon didn’t say)
Review & Fun Game
Activity: Body part puzzle.
-
Draw or print a simple outline of a boy/girl.
-
Cut out puzzle pieces of body parts (hands, feet, eyes, ears, nose, mouth).
-
Children fit the correct body part back into the outline.
-
For variation: Add labels (e.g., “hand”) and let kids place the word near the correct part.
