Leap 1
Understanding Child Development
Activity Name: Growth Journal – Weekly Page: “Something I Can Do Now That I Couldn’t Do Before”.
Description:
The child keeps a simple Growth Journal with one page per week. Every week, the parent asks the child to write or draw one new skill or improvement they have achieved.
Examples include:
-
“I can solve 3-digit addition.”
-
“I can ride my cycle without help.”
-
“I can read a full chapter by myself.”
-
“I can tie my shoelaces neatly.”
The child can decorate the page with colours, stickers, or small drawings. Parents celebrate each new entry with encouraging words like:
-
“Look how much you are growing!”
-
“You worked hard to learn this.”
Over time, the journal becomes a collection of the child’s progress and self-confidence.
Objective:
-
To help children recognize their own growth and celebrate progress.
-
To boost self-confidence, self-awareness, and intrinsic motivation.
-
To encourage a growth mindset—understanding that skills improve with effort.
-
To support children in reflecting on their strengths and new abilities.
-
To build a habit of positive self-reflection each week.
